“I admire the chameleons … those who reinvent themselves, like Linda Evangelista,” Eve Salvail once remarked to the press.

No surprise.

Modelling from the age of 18, the Quebec-born model made her mark as Jean-Paul Gaultier’s muse in1991. After she shaved her head and,for good measure, emblazoned her skull with a Chinese dragon tattoo, taking the design from an 800-year-old artifact.

A wildly distinct look that catapulted Salvailonto international runways—Gaultier, Lagerfeld, Chanel, Armani, Versace, Moschino, Mugler, among them—she was suddenly everywhere. Landing covers from Paris Vogue and ELLE to I-D, Marie-Claire, and Clind'oeil, her fame instant. Quickly achievingcult status, Salvail was absorbed into the larger popular culture as she appeared as herself in touchstone fashion films, like Robert Altman’s Pret-a-Porter and the Isaac Mizrahi documentary, Unzipped. Scored roles in The Fifth Element and Zoolander, starred in the Lenny Kravitz’s video, “Is There Any Love InYour Heart”.

In an era that redefinedtraditional beauty as it cycled through gritty looks from Grunge to Heroin Chic, Salvail was as uniquely synonymous with the ‘90s as Kate. Challenging traditional beauty standards with an edgy, androgyny set her apart from the decade’s classic glamazons.

Ever the individualist, Salvail fronted a band, 10 WattMary, that’s debut album, Low Down, received raves from Billboardmagazine for its “dark, sexy trip pop”. Then went on to transform herself into DJ Evalicious, spinning at clubs and fashion events for everyone from Zac Posen to Saks Fifth Avenue, while producing soundtracks for the catwalk, “helping the designer interpret his orher vision for the collections”.

Residing in New York, Salvail came out as a lesbian in 2007, and returned to modelling in 2011. Starringin a shoot for a Jean-Paul Gaultier retrospective in Montreal, then walking the designer’s 2011/12 Haute Couture and F/W runway.

Invited by China-based designer, Min Liu, to be the face of the Ms MIN FW17 collection, Salvail says:

“I didn't know the Ms MIN label. I was so floored when I found out. Min Liu is a true artist. She not only knows how to create garments that feel good on, but her creations fall with a perfection that would make any woman feel sexy, edgy, elegant, and comfortable. It was an honor to be part of the new collection. I wear my Ms MIN with great pride”.
